Two connections - Specify which applications use what..

I have two internet connections, one high speed university network and one slow 3g internet connection.

Some games and applications are blocked by the university firewall so i use my 3g adapter to play/run them. However to get it to work i first have to disable my university connection. These has two downsides, firstly a performance hit on the 3g connection as all the programs now use that for internet and secondly i get charged for every bit of data i use so the less the better!

How do i have both connections running and set everything to run on my university connection EXCEPT say game X which can ONLY use my 3g internet for its connection?

Thanks!

I have just stumbled across my own sollution:

ForceBindIP - Bind any Windows application to a specific interface

Once this is installed i just created a shortcut with the target:

C:\Windows\System32\ForceBindIP.exe {D0B00308-bla bla bla-CE488D} "D:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield Bad Company 2\BFBC2Game.exe"

To find which garbage to put into the middle go here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces

Then find which adapter is the network adapter you want to use and copy the folder name which will look a bit like mine above. Then when you run the shortcut the program ONLY uses that connection Brilliant!

Bit of a chore, so if anyone knows a simplar way please enlighten me!

Thanks,

Oh cool

Actually I was going to say that you COULD do that in code, but if the app doesn't support it then Windows will use the "preferred" interface which would probably always be the university over the 3g.

But of course if you wrote a program to intercept the packets and reroute them through a specific adapter... heh, well there you go.

I suppose a better version of the program would have a little UI that would allow you to setup "profiles" for different apps like a lot of game controllers do, it would then list the adapters by name and let you pick. In fact, you COULD write a little GUI to do just that and have it generate the shortcuts for that program...
