How to share internet connection without a router

    Hello

I am currently in a student housing and have an internet connection through a lan cable that comes out of the wall, so i have no access to anything. I just bought a eeepc with windows 7 and have an older laptotp with also windows 7. My old laptop is connected to internet and i would like to share that connection to the other one using wireless without a router. I looked on internet and found out it was possible with some tutorials for xp and vista.

But i cant seem to figure out what's wrong. My second computer connects to the network I set up with the 1st one but there is no internet access.

Anyone ever had this problem? did i forget something?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi longlife,

What are your system specs and what type of router are you using? :)

Yeah, none of that will work the way you're doing it. Back out all the changes that those URLs above had you do. If you're not sure what those are, your best bet would be system restore or reinstall. Any remnants of those old broken configurations WILL destroy any chance of this working.

On the old laptop, go into network connections. You should see two icons, one for wired (ethernet) and one for wireless. First you've got to make sure that each of your two networks are working before you bridge them so double check that you can browse the internet on the old laptop and that you can connect to the eee PC to share files etc.

Then select BOTH icons, you know so they're both highlighted and then right click ONE of the icon and select bridge connections. Depending on the speed of the laptop this can take a few minutes. When it's done, you should be able to browse the internet on the eee PC.
