Wireless trouble with

Try switching from Homegroup to Workgroup (what XP uses) and disabling IPv6 on your Windows 7 computers.

Fred is right. Homegroup was designed for computers using Windows Seven; it does not play nice with other OS's. You can make it work; but it takes some effort. Workgroups is a better arrangement for different OS's.

I'm not in front of my computer right now but open Networking options and it should say Home as the display type. It will say Joined on the right. Click it and change the connection type to Work. Then go to advanced settings, properties and uncheck the box that's says IPv6.

I'm currently not connected to any network, this thing is being very cruel to me. I don't understand where to change a wireless network from homegroup to workgroup while I am setting up the connection (I opened my networking options like you said but there was nothing about changing HOME to WORK, only thing on topic was at the bottom left there was a see also: Homegroup. I clicked on it and it just says "This computer can't connect to a homegroup.") Even when the network is set up, it still says I have no connection.

Thanks Fred. Let me try to give you a better understanding of my problem.

When I attempt to connect to our network it says "Getting information from linksys..." then prompts me for a security key *below the text box it says "You can also connect by pushing the button on the router" showing a picture of a refresh button on a box* after I type my passcode into the text box it shows 1 of 2 things. Either a new window comes up saying "Windows was unable to connect to this network" or, a different new window shows up with another text box asking me for the passcode again, this time with no picture or message about the router. No matter what I enter in the text box, it always just says "incorrect passphrase or code"

I went to the homegroup page under Network and saw nothing about Workgroup, however I did notice I was connected to a homegroup so I left it, I can no longer connect to any homegroups.

EDIT!: My flatmate just changed the router settings to WPA-Personal 2 / AES same password. And now when I try to connect to our network it takes the password, and connects for literally a second. I even opened up firefox and hit refresh for the second I was connected, and the website popped up, then I lost internet immediately.
