This tutorial will help you set up.
Internet Sharing using Cross-Over cable
I personally don't think a crossover cable is the easiest - unless this is something you will only being once. Otherwise, it requires you to swap your network cables every time you want to share files, then swap back again to connect to the Internet.
Did you mean to say you don't have a router? If you are on cable, you have a "cable modem" but it is typical for cable (and DSL) modems to only have one local network connection. The best way, in the long run, is to buy a router that includes a 4-port Ethernet switch. Most do. Using a router, even a budget, entry-level router, is the best way, by far, not because you can connect multiple computers to one Internet connection, but for the HUGE security advantage being behind a router offers. For this reason alone, I strongly recommend all cable and DSL users use a router for their local network, even on networks of just one computer.i dont have a modem
You still need to setup sharing and configure your firewalls to let the other computer in, as you would with a cross-over cable. But, you can also share network printers, networked drives, and the Internet connection - totally independent of the any other computer. And once set up (not hard to do), there's no swapping cables to share files.
