    Disparity between 2 Windows 7 machine's networks

    Hi all,

I have 2 Windows 7 machines, one a PC and one a laptop. Both show identical network maps (the 2 computers and a router), yet my PC does not have 4 bars in the task bar (indicating good range?). Instead it has a "monitor" type icon with a pitchfork symbol on it. The laptop is working on a wireless signal from my router, while the PC is direct-cabled into the same router (local area connection).

Should my PC also be showing 4 bars, or is the current symbology correct?

Should I change my setup in any way?

    Thanks for any help, noels

Yes... wireless shows bars, direct connect shows a square box thing.

If you put your mouse on the monitor symbol, does it pop up a little window that says "Internet Access" ... if it does then it's working.

You do have access to the internet and your file shares... Ya?

    CommonTater,

Looks like all is good with my machines, then! The icons tell the story... And good advice about ain't being broke - I just wasn't sure...
