    What type of broadband?

    What make/model of switch?

For example: If you're on PPPOE you need a username and password to connect to the intenet and most often these are supplied by the router. You may have to change your modem settings to get the router bypass to work...

    Please explain your hardware.

    I.E.
Do you just have an RJ-45 sticking out of the wall as in college dorms?
Do you have a DSL modem & a router?
Do you have a DSL modem alone?
Do you have a cable modem & router?
Do you have a cable modem alone?

The difference between dsl and cable can be found by either reading the manual or checking the wiring. DSL uses a RJ-11 (Phone Line), Cable uses a coaxial cable.
