    Have you enabled DHCP?

Go to the LAN connection's properties on each machine and make sure that:
    • File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and Client for Microsoft Networks are enabled.
    • NetBIOS over TCP/IP is set to Enable (not Default ) in the TCP/IP Properties > Advanced > WINS .
On Windows 7, make sure that Network Discovery is turned on.
If you assign a static IP address, you must also assign IPV4 Default Gateway and IPv4 DNS Server to have Internet access
Static IP vs DHCP in Windows 7
Okay, I did as you suggested and enabled DHCP as per your instructions I re-booted and I was logged on.
Where do I assign IPV4 Default Gateway and IPV4 DNS Server if I want a Static IP?

See if these instructions help you:
How do I configure my static IP address?

Hi When I logged on to the 'net today it took about 4mins, however, I didn't receive the usual errors in Event viewer, apart from one.
    Check out the screen-shots!
As you can see from the time i switched my comp on (12:14), it took about 4mins to log on.
