Configure your Computer to Accept VPN Connections in Windows 7 - Tips & Tweaks

I followed the steps above to setup a VPN on my windows 7 64bit prof server. If I attempt to connect to it via the wifi aspect of the network (using it's 192.168 Ip), I can connect just fine. I am using PPTP security.

If I try to access it from another Wifi spot (starbucks, school, etc) or at&t 3g, all I get is a message saying the connection could not be established to the PPP computer.

I enabled port forwarding in my router to the IP of the server ( 1723, 47). That still didn't work. So I enabled DMZ for that local Ip, still no luck.

I am using the correct password and username for sure (I intentionally typed it wrong and got an error message saying it was wrong when I was connecting from starbucks). The external Ip of my home network is correct as well.

Does anyone have any advice (yes I did tick the box that talks about allowing for internet sharing when I setup the VPN).

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

Maybe this will help, it's hard to say what exactly the problem is but usually it's just a missed setting or something. You will also need to adjust the outgoing settings so I posted that tutorial also.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

i experienced the same problem before, but there is a couple of things u need to consider

your location ip to the computer u want to connect, that is ur external ip not ur internal ip. then u will have to scan the ports at the location u want to connect ur vpn to, eg. starbucks. for ur home router, try to forward, port 443 tcp, for my case, i cannot connect, but when i forwarded port 443 to my computer, i got it, i can connect it. hope that helps, this is the link i posted on earlier on, u can check it for ur reference.

You have to understand. You are using a public Wifi Spot... Who's to say if that network is even open up to VPN connections?
