When you notice that just the User folder is shared and you didn't even set up shares with the user folder, it's usually because you inadvertantly set up a Homegroup type of network in a mixed Op system network.
Homegroups wasn't meant to be used in a mixed Op system network so the sharing options do not work correctly. When that happens the User folder ends up being shared even though you didn't set up permissions to share it.
You can fix the problem by just leaving the Homegroup and then setting up a Workgroup type of network. Homegroup - Leave
