Can't connect to router with no security

    Hello,

I'm trying to help someone get a wireless adapter connected to their router. Simple stuff. There is no security set on the router, the drivers are up to date, the adapter sees the available SSID and allows me to try to connect but then "the 5-bar wireless icon in the system tray continuously showed a rotating blue circle".

Here are the details of the configuration:
    - Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55 - UD5 Intel Core 1156 ATX
    - CPU: Intel Core i7 Processor 2.80 GHz
    - RAM memory: 2x CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB ( 2 X 2GB ) PC3-10666 1333MHz
    - OS: MS Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

    and here is the diagnostic:

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device back on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or access point that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

Windows cannot resolve your wireless connectivity issue.

6 A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken Detected

Plug an Ethernet cable into this computer Not run

An Ethernet cable looks like a telephone cable but with larger connectors on the ends. Plug this cable into the opening on the back or side of the computer. Make sure the other end of the cable is plugged into the router. If that does not help, try using a different cable.

Are the wireless protocols compatible? In other words, you're not trying to connect an 802.11g adapter to a router that's configured to connect to 802.11n only.

Sorry for not providing enough details:

Yes, the adapter is 802.11b/g/n compatible - 150mbps and the router (access point) is 802.11b/g and set to mixed mode.

    Thanks
