Remote desktop connection problem

Hi, not sure where to post this, but here it goes:

When I try to connect to another computer using the remote desktop connection feature in Windows 7 (the other computer still being on Vista), I get the error "Your computer could not connect to another console session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress.".

Here, I can see when I go to the task manager, in the Users tab, that I'm the only user currently active, and having a console session as type of session. Then if I right click and choose log off or disconnect, I get to go to the windows login screen, the one we put our password in when we start the computer.

So, guys, How to I make it so I can use the remote desktop connection again?

On my laptop running Windows 7 Pro I have no problems at all, the current computer has Windows 7 Ultimate, that I just got.

Thanks in advance.

Log your "self" off on the "server" computer.

After you restart the "server", do not login on the "server" - as in clicking your name, and type the password. Leave the "server" at login screen. By default Windows 7 can only be used by 1 concurrent user, there are many that can login at the same time, but only 1 user active at all time. Windows server on the other hand can be used by many users concurrently, thus needing CALs...

The host computer is on Vista, the computer I'm on and trying to access the other computer with is on Windows 7 Ultimate. Now, the problem seems to be on the computer I'm on, since I can access the "server" computer without problems using my laptop, which is on Windows 7 Pro.

i know this one..... your vista is a home or some version that only has the client software, not the server software.
"You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to remote (host) computers running the following editions of Windows Vista:
  • Windows Vista Starter
  • Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Windows Vista Home Basic N
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
However, any edition of Windows Vista can be running on your computer (the one you want to connect from).
You cannot use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to remote computers running Windows XP."

from windows help.

I'm not sure about Vista and Remote desktop...I can tell you the last statement is dead wrong.
I remote desktop to several XP computers daily.

Let me ask a simple question...did you add yourself (login account) to the Vista Computer to log on?
In other words, did you create and/or give an account permission to connect to it via RDP?

all kinds

1. disable antivirus/firewall temporarily on both machines to rule those out
2. check for stale connections by running the tsadmin command at the run prompt
3. try using another port mstsc /v:host:5029 for example

I don't know what I did, but the problem is gone. Btw, I think I didn't make myself clear and I'm sorry about that, I was trying to connect to a Vista Ultimate computer using my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop, but I had the error in the first post when I did, while on my Windows 7 Pro laptop I didn't have any trouble.

Anyway, problem solved, but I don't know what I did to solve it.
