need help with file sharing between windows 7 and xp

OK, so i just recently got a laptop with windows 7 on it. My desktop has windows xp and i'm trying to make it so i can copy files to and from my laptop to my desktop and vice-versa without having to set it up every time and so that i can just turn on the desktop and it will be able to share files with my laptop right away.

So far, i have gotten my desktop to be able to access my laptop through "My Network Places" in the "The Internet" section. But on my laptop, it shows my desktop (and what my desktop used to be named for some reason) in the network on the side of the explorer window. when i double click on one, it says that windows cannot access *computer name* and when i press to diagnose the problem, it says to make sure that the device or resource (*computer name*) allows incoming connections for file and printer sharing. In someone could help me, that'd be great. Thanks.

Search this part of the forums... I've described how to do this many times.

Ok... sharing an entire drive --especially one with an OS on it-- is pretty risky stuff and thus not such a good idea.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

ok well i guess i can change it to share only some folders. I gues i just want to be able to take some files that i might need off my desktop and put them onto my laptop because i just got my laptop and i might have left some stuff on there. i also want to be able to get some stuff off my laptop when im on the desktop in case i need a file thats on the laptop while im on my desktop.

Also, i have an encrypted network that only has two computers on it, my laptop and my desktop so i thought it would be fine if i shard the C drive

I am following this thread because we have another member here with the exact scenario. I am very interested in the solution.
