    Remote connection issues

Im trying to setup a remote connection to my PC & Netbook then vice versa, my PC can access my netbook with out issues but my netbook cant, this is via mstsc command and I've temporarily disabled the firewall on both ends and im still having issues connecting to my PC from my netbook, I get the following error message.

If it matters both machines can ping each other.

Remote desktop cant connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1.) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2.) The remote computer is turned off
3.) The remote computer is not available on the network

I already have the remote desktop enabled on my PC under control panel > system properties> remote

I am connecting via IP address and my PC has a static address.

I have the following services running if it matters

    Remote access auto connection manager
    Remote access connection manager
    Remote desktop configuration
    Remote desktop services
Remote desktop services usermode port redirector
    Remote procedure call
    Remote procedure locator
    RPC endpoint mapper

For now having NOD32's firewall running does not allow me access and still at the trial and error phase of setting it up to allow me access w/o dropping the firewall, if anyone can teach me how to configure the firewall it would be a great help.

Are you sure the netbook has a compatible OS? I assume the netbook will have Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium on it. Only Professional and higher support hosting a session.

So, you should be able to connect to your dekstop from the netbook, but not the other way around.

The netbook came with Win7 starter 32bit, I upgraded it to ultimate via the upgrade anytime button under the control panel and placed in my ultimate serial key, I can provide screenshots for further verification if needed.

I am able to connect from my desktop to my netbook, but not from my netbook to my desktop.

How are you doing your port forwarding? If you're both in the same network, it won't matter, as you can use the computer name, rather than the IP address.

If you're in the same network, and still can't connect, the only thing I can suggest is go through the settings on the desktop, and match them to the netbook.

We are on the same network but my desktop is on a static IP while the netbook is under DHCP, but i've configured my router to always give a specific IP to my netbook.. Thats one of the problems I cant access my netbook via its computer name.. no file sharing

File sharing shouldn't need to be on, only Network Discovery, I believe.

Have you tried connecting using the computer name? I wonder if it will work anyway.

Nope, cant connect via computer name as well.. maybe there is a specific service thats been turned off on my PC and it needs it to be running for it to be able to accept connections ??

Make sure you're in the same workgroup.

In regards to the sharing problem, are you sure that both machines are using the same default gateway? If not then sharing won't work. To check just type, ipconfig ,into your command prompt then hit enter, both machines should be showing the same default gateway. You may also need to disable or uninstall nod32 for sharing to work properly. After you get sharing set up and working you can reinstall nod32.

As for the RDC problem, using the manual method by typing in the IP doesn't really cover all the ports and permissions that need to be used. Following this tutorial using the GUI will open the required ports and set up permissions for you without having to guess at it.
