    Brother HL-2140 on 7 (x64) networked to Vista (x86)

Re: Brother HL-2140 monochrome laser printer
Installed on Windows 7 64-bit and fully functional
To be shared over home network with Vista 32-bit
Vista 32-bit 'finds' the HL-2140 on 7 over the home network but does not load the available 32-bit driver

Has anyone made this combination work? Brother's tech support says they do not support networking on this model, so no help there …

In Windows 7, in Printer Properties under the Sharing tab, there is an "Additional Drivers" button that ostensibly allows 32-bit drivers to be added for the particular printer for just this situation.

The downloaded 32-bit HL-2140 drivers for Vista are not accepted; nor are they accepted after being located in Vista's Add networked printer routine. Specifically, at both the Windows 7 64-bit end and the Vista 32-bit end the file "BROHL07A.INF" is rejected as not matching the operating system.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

I have the networked version of that printer. Love it!

    Anyways....
Install the correct drivers on the Vista and the correct ones on the 7

You are going to have to manually point the TCP/IP port to the Windows 7 computer.
That way your Vista machine will know to use "its" drivers but use the port of the windows 7.

I cannot get my Brother HL-2140 to work properly with my new computer and windows 7. I downloaded the windows 7 brother printer drivers from brothers website and followed the instructions to a tee, I even did the troubleshooting options the printer gave me and still nothing. All of the lights on my printer are flashing and it is turning itself on and off. Help please!

If you like i am very good at setting up that printer or those types of printer.

If you like... i can team view with you and help you set it up that way. I definitly know that printer uses the TCP/IP

What I did was changed some of the settings in the firmware software of the printer so they stayed the same especially when it came to the IP. Mines is always at: 192.168.2.11

so i could defineltly help you if your next post won't be 4 weeks from now *lol*
