Guest with own Hmgroup wants to print on my HG printer I have a Homegroup set up on a desktop at my house running Windows 7 Professional (32 bit). It is an HP printer (hp psc 1350 all in one). My girlfriend also has a Homegroup set up at her house. When she brings her laptop over here to do work, she is not able to properly connect to the printer and print from it? Is there a way to share the printer with guests? Does she have to join my Homegroup to use the printer?

Depends on how the printer is hooked up to your network.
Is the printer hooked up to a computer via USB, to the router via USB on a print server port, or to the router with an RJ45 (Cat5) cable. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HAL-9000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Intel i7 2600K @ 4.44Ghz Motherboard Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1 Memory 16GB DDR3 1333 Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card XFX HD5850 1GB EyeFinity Sound Card Logitech G35 & Sennheiser PC135 & VIA HD Monitor(s) Displays 23" HP 2310e, 23" Samsung B2230, 21.5" Viewsonic Screen Resolution 5760x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 and G13 Mouse Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse PSU Antec True Power New 650watt Case Cooler Master HAF-932 Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler, 3x 230mm Fans, 2x120mm Fan Hard Drives 16TB of Storage

From Help and Support in your Start menu: Access files and printers on other homegroup computers Before you can access files or a printer on another computer, you must add that computer to your homegroup. Computers that belong to your homegroup will appear in Windows Explorer. For more information about adding computers to your homegroup, see Add computers to a homegroup. To access files or folders on other homegroup computers 1. Click the Start button , and then click your user name. 2. In the navigation pane (the left pane), under Homegroup, click the user account name of the person whose files you want to access. 3. In the file list, double-click the library you want to access, and then double-click the file or folder you want. PS: Look it up on your own system, then the links will work. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

I agree, she will need to join the Homegroup by typing in the Homegroup password and also install which ever drivers are needed for the printer to print. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 RTM X64 CPU Q9650-4.275GHz, E8600 4.5GHz, E6750-3.8GHz Motherboard Evga 780i FTW Memory G.Skill PC2 9600 1200Mhz 5 5 5 15 2T Graphics Card GTX480 Sound Card Asus Xonar D2 Monitor(s) Displays HannsG Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU ThermalTake Toughpower 1000Watt modular Case ThermalTake XaserV Cooling Xigmatek S1283 Hard Drives GSkill Phoenix Pro 120GB SSD Internet Speed T1 |

As an alternative you could share the printer via the older "workgroup" system ensuring that the printer is shared using advance sharing with everyone.
She would need to change her workgroup to the same as the PC sharing the printer but this may be less complex than constantly changing homegroup | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Real World Computing (Me + a little help from Acer) OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 + x86 + Windows 8 x64 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1035T 2.6 GHz Motherboard Aspire M3400 Memory 4Gb PC10600 DDR3 1333 MHz Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 315 512MB Sound Card OnBoard - Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Philips 32" HDTV, (HDMI) + 26" TV (VGA) Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @60Hz + 1360 x 768 @60Hz Keyboard Microsoft Wireless 800 or Stock Acer, (depends where I sit) Mouse Microsoft Wireless 800 or Stock Acer, (depends where I sit) PSU Stock (400W) Case Acer M3400 Cooling Stock Hard Drives 500 GB Seagate ST3500418AS SATA II

I thought as much. Hoped there was some simpler answer out there. Kinda sucks. I know with Windows 7 Professional and above you can set different default printers for different networks. She has Home Premium though. You'd think that as we are in the portable age, using printers in different places would be made simpler, hopefully in the future.
