Network Printer

I have a laptop running Windows 7 and a desktop running Windows XP. The desktop is connected to a HP Photosmart 1115 series. I am trying to print from the laptop via the network. There are no drivers for the printer for Windows 7. Do I need to install print drivers on the laptop in order to be able to print? I tried to follow an earlier thread on this problem but when I add a printer device on the laptop my printer is not in the list. I tried to follow a previous thread about TCP/IP address but I do not know how to get an IP address? I am able to share files without any problems. I even added a local port with \\desktopname\printername and that did not work. If I have to install a printer on the laptop then I am at a loss. Please help.

if you are running 32bit Windows 7 then you "may" be able to use the XP drivers for that printer.
I just upgraded a clients machine to windows 7 and they had an old Lexmark printer that only had Win98, 2K, and XP drivers available. I was able to get the XP drivers to install in Windows 7 for this printer.

It is Windows 7 64-bit operating system. I now have another problem. I installed a HP printer on the laptop as a network printer and I do not know how to delete it I keep getting local print spooler service is not running. I did delete the printer because it did not print anything legible--this was a suggestion from HP to use this printer. In the control panel under devices it does not show but under network it shows the printer.

Disregard last post--solved problem with printer and deleted from network. Once again I try to connect to the printer connected to the desktop computer and I get error 0x00000214. I try to connect and windows can't find a driver for the printer on the network. I can browse to a path on the desktop and chose the .inf driver but then I get the error message above.
