Need a fast way to transfer files over the internet

You can also use a Network Drive on your desktop, it's very easy and the fastest way to upload any file, I am a web developer and use this method on all my domains and clients domains.

Map Network Drive

1. From the desktop, click on Start and then right click on My Computer.
2. Then, click on Map Network Drive.
3. From that screen, click Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures, and then click Next.
4. Click Choose a custom network location, and then click Next.
5. Enter the following in the Internet or network address field:

Example is ftp://ftp.yourdomain.com

6. Enter your ftp username and password when prompted.

Example is username: usedom and password is 123abc you enter these details when prompted

Once you have done the above you can access your ftp for your domain in My Computer at the very bottom of page.

Then all you do is drag and drop your files that you want to upload into your folders on My Computer and it will upload them for you.

If you have any problems don't hesitate to contact me in this thread where i will assist you in creating your desktop FTP client.

This is very secure as your use the same username and password that you do with your CPanel account. Its just much quicker and easier to use.

He doesn't state how far his dads office is, so if it is very far away, then it may be slower.

Might have to FedEx overnight it. Or if there's a football field nearby, get a couple of really big rubber bands, tie them to the goal posts... well, you get the idea. Be sure to calculate for windage.

It seems it's time for an old dog to learn some new tricks... Could you please explain how is this method faster than any other uploading method?

Other than that, I fully agree with you. This is a practical and easy method to use.

This would be more complex considering that both computers are likely behind routers, requiring that they open ports etc.

Skydrive is probably one of the easier methods.

Or Teamviewer, which is similar to LogMeIn.

Damn, Sorry I got completely lost there and started thinking you where uploading to a domain not a PC, I did read your thread but by the time I replied I changed what you where asking in my own mind

I know I'm mad

I also use Teamviewer 5 to teach web development and this is a very good option and transfer can be relatively quick, I would go with Teamviewer 5 and the good thing is it's completely FREE :)

Teamviewer 5 can be installed on your PC's or run as an online app if your not interested in adding more software to you PC's.

Well it's ease of access and once your folders are open the drag/drop is all thats needed, you just simply place the file your uploading into the directory your looking for, job done! :)

I have tried cPanel 11 and this method and everytime this method has uploaded faster than cPanel and also allowed me to download files faster too

As for why this is faster I don't exactly know I just know that when I do it it's always faster for me.

Drag & drop can be a drag if there's hundreds or thousands of files. By the time explorer counts how many files it's going to copy when it actually starts to copy, a command line oriented copy can be completed. That's why one of the MS guy came up with RichCopy. It doesn't count first, it just starts copying.
