Internet on startup
I have a normal Adsl2+ wired modem which i use to connect to the Internet. I'd like the system to auto-connect on startup, do you know how could it be done?

You mean automatically open up a browser window?
go to the wlan icon in your notification area and move your mouse up to your network. Right click it and click on properties. On the connection tab, make sure connect automatically when this network is in range is checked.
Good luck!
"Normal" modems usually connects by it self, and most of the time acts as a firewall for you. If your modem acts as a modem, and you need to dial the connection manually (over PPPoE), I guess you can look into your modem's web interface, maybe there's something you can change in the dial-out option (that is if you connect to your modem using ethernet cable). If you connect to the modem using USB... Then I suppose you can put the dialer in the start up item?

Personally I don't like ISP setup CD's, that installs a dialer on your desktop. Normally, using that kind of connection setup is the only reason why the connection is not automatic when computer is booted.
As zzz2496 above mentioned, check the modem's web interface and setup the connection from there.
If your router has no way of doing it in the software then you can always purchase a thrid party router that will do it for you which will keep your internet connect on "all the time"
or if your just using one computer with no other devices then you can just hae the computer run a script to dial in as the computer boots.
It's not a router and has no firewall, just a modem. It hasn't a web interface. When i bought it it didn't support windows vista (don't know what it means), maybe it is the reason why it doesn't connect automatically on startup. The problem is that i don't want to spend another 30€ to buy a modem that wouldn't auto-connect anyways, if there is a way to make this one do.
To copy/paste the connection icon (from control panel) to the startup folder doesn't work.
Are you asking to have the laptop automatically dial a connection when its turn on or would you like to get a router where you would like the router to always have a connection... and in the cable modem world we call that "STAY ON" all the time.
we can get a router to always be on where you never have to dial a connection your laptop ever.... it would just log into the router when the computer boots up and be connected right away
I'd like when i turn on the desktop, and log into the account, to be connected to the Internet automatically, without going to the connections icon and clicking "connect". If it is possible without using a router, since this is the only PC in the house, it wouldn't make sense...
(Also, i already have a router, and had to remove it because of the huge latency times it would cause)
The only thing i can think of is put Internet Explorer in your STARTUP folder in windows and then turn on startup automatic connection in your internet options

This is a good tutorial...
but at the end...
you are going to want to always dial a connection.....
Then under your "STARTUP" folder in your USER... you will want to create a Internet Explorer.exe there so that it will start your internet explorer program and then the explorer program and will start the dialer program.
