Can you get another computer to wake up and sleep when you press the on button on your computer?
    If so, how?

I know how to use WOL. Wondering if it could be used when I switch on either of my computers the NAS will switch on automatically and carry out a Backup of all files then shutdown automatically without having to be there...

Like madwh said above, you would need to use a Wake on LAN program in conjunction with a mouse macro program.

I know nothing about macros; I suggest you start by Googling mouse macros, or start here: Auto Macro Recorder : Easy-to-use macro recorder, Let computer do boring things for you.

Trouble is I can't get Depicus to work on the network!

I can get it to work via the network (computer to computer) and also via website (internet) to computer. But, I can't get it to work from computer-Internet-computer. Strange innit!

It's a matter of doing port forwarding correctly and adding a static ARP entry into the router. Without these wake on lan over the Internet is not gonna happen. I suggest buying a dd-wrt compatible router and from there it's pretty easy.
