Cannot Login to XP Share from Win7

    Hi All,

I am about to pass out on this one.

I have a share on an XP machine. When I try to access the share from my Windows 7 Laptop, I get a login prompt. No problem there, I enter the Administrator login/password but it keeps being rejected.

Now, on the same network, I have a Windows Server 2003 machine. From it, I can connect to the share on the XP machine without any problems.

I think something change on my laptop as I am sure it worked at some point. I disabled all the firewalls but same issue.

I had that problem before at work and, as I was about to pass out, I found an article about the IRPStackSize registry tweak (Not enough server storage | Windows Problem Solver) and it worked great at work. But no luck at home.

    Any other has this issue?

That type of problem usually means that the time/date settings aren't in sync. The bios clocks being out of sync can also cause this problem.

After struggling with the IRPStackSize for a while, I decided to follow your advice and I looked at the clock on the machine and indeed, it was set to 2015 for whatever reason! I set it back to 2010, restarted the Server Service and Voila! Everything worked again! I almost fell off my chair.

Thanks a lot again chev65, you are great!

P.S.: For the benefits of other users, my working IRPStackSize value is 25.

    Thanks
