Urgent help....how to use laptop WLAN as router?

i have EVDO connection, i live in pakistan and i have worldcall wireless USB device to connect to internet, which i plug in to my laptop to connect to internet...before that i had ADSL connection to connect to,via router and then using my laptop WLAN to connect,and i had an option to connect my laptop as well as my iphone too.
but now,i dont know how can i connect my iphone to internet,as my way of connecting is wireless USB EVDO device and of course it cannot be attached to router (as it is USB n 2ndly i have to dial) so please tell me some way,i can make my laptop as router to connect my iphone to internet too..

You have to use ICS....

Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

I know it saids vista, but its about the same in 7 as well.

You may need to go back to the wireless router and use as a "Wide Area Network".
Set up your security protocols and then have your iphone connect wirelessly to your wan using your set up configuration and password.

i just want to know something further in it...if u please know these things,i will be very thankful to u guys.....

1..when using laptop w/lan as router...... how much is its range that i can use it as router...as routers have a specific ranges,how much is this w.lan has range....according to above post...and problem discussed...
2..according to above discussed method....it means that laptop w.lan will be an open connection,anyone can connect to it...i want it to be password protected as routers are, with passcode protected...

in what way i can do above things....
i shall stay very thankful to u....
