Shared Printer Trouble
I am attempting to install two remote printers across the a small business network which I manage. The shared printers are attached to an older Dell running XP Pro. I can see them under that computer's IP address; but every time I try to connect to either, I get the following error (after a few moments).
Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709). Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network.
Both printers name are seen on the network, and I am double clicking the printer's icon, so the printer name is correct and is connected to the network. The Dell is always on, and the last time I checked, so was both printers. I currently do not have access to the office in which these printers are located.
I have also tried manuelly installing both printers, but I get an error saying that my computer cannot connect to the printer. Manuelly installing was suggested in the vistax64 forum many times.
I have googled this problem, and none of the suggestions or help worked. I am at a loss as how to proceed.
I have been able to install shared printers in the past (at my home network) and I am using the same brand router -abiet different model- here. Also, I was only dealing with Vista & Seven together. Vista was the OS on the home network.
I have always had trouble with XP computers connecting to Vista and Seven and vice versa.
I am not sure if the Dell user account has a password set up on it or not.
