Can't access XP drive from Win7 PC

Here we go again. Last year managed to create shares and gain Win7 access to drives on XP PC. All was well. Just installed a new drive on XP and now cannot gain full access from Win7. Win7 sees the drive and folders, but will not open folders or individual files. New drive in XP is set to share and allow users to change files. When I try to change permissions in Win7 (to total control for everyone), first I am warned it would be better to change access locally (access is already total). When I try to proceed to change permissions anyway, I get an error message: "an error occurred while applying security information...access denied." The same happens when I try to change ownership of the XP drive from the Win7 machine. Meanwhile, I have no problem accessing the 2 other XP drives. The new XP drive is NTSF formatted with a single basic partition. Thanks for any help.

    Bemellard:

Did you take your Windows XP system out of "Simple File Sharing?"
If you were to do that, it would fix alot of problems.

Thanks much for the suggestions. Unfortunately disabling simple file sharing did not have any effect.

Best thing to do is to compare the problem drive with the other 2 Xp drives and see what permission and security differ. Don't forget to go to the Advance property of the folders under Security tab.
