I have two problems with an Inspiron computer that I just purchased. I cant tell you the specs right now, but I was hoping to maybe get some general solutions. First the internet seems to be slower on the new Inspiron than it did on my 8 year old dell. I checked the drivers and they were all up to date. Any ideas?

Also the new computer wont recognize my ipod. Is this something to do with windows 7? Any ideas?

thanks

No matter which inspirion you have the problem is probably that you are using "homegroup" On some mixed network system homegroup has connectivity problems. You can verify if that is the problem by creating a new network connection using workgroup. If the problem disappears you can disable IPv6 (used in homegroup) and then kill homegroup.

Let us know if you need help with that

I'm always a bit amazed that someone would buy a computer without being familiar with the specs (how else would you know if it was a good deal or not?), but I digress.

For the internet, what type of connection do you have, how much memory is in the system, and what are you doing as a comparison?

For the iPod, do you have iTunes loaded? If yes, do other USB devices work?

Hi Jeremy,

Here is a good read on internet speed - Why is my Internet connection so slow?. Hopefully this will help you to speed up the internet :)

Also, make sure you have the lastest version of iTunes downloaded on your laptop before trying to connect your iPod.

Let us know what you find out.

Cheers,

Why not? Just use Belarc Advisor or copy from your invoice. Your profile says Vista but you talk of Windows 7
