Network Attached Storage or extra drives on/in the desktop?
My story begins in the late 90's when I discovered 'the router'. I took my Dell P75, put it in the basement, ran an Ethernet cord upstairs (through a hole in the floor) into the router. Now with my fancy new Dell P266 I could read 'the server' downstairs I'll leave my discovery of VNC for another time hehe.
Since then I've been using my desktop and the drives inside as a server of sorts. Currently I've got an 80 for OS and programs, a 500gb for stuff and a 160gb in an external plugged into USB.
I leave the thing on 24/7/365. Burn that fossil fuel!
So to finally get to the point the 500 is 80% full and I'm wondering if I go with the Iomega external 1tb or get into NAS.
Thoughts?
