Disable internet on wired connection but still see network computers

Hi all,

So I have two internet connections.

The wireless is one I share with my roommates and is fast. The wired NIC connects to a router which has slower internet. The reason I connect to the wired router is so my PC can talk to a linux machine, which I use for some data downloading/analysis.

I want to disable internet from the wired connection but keep the ability to talk to other machines on the wired network. I just changed the IPv4 settings and deleted the DNS server information. Is this the best way to do so? I want the wireless to provide internet.

Thanks!

As long as both your wireless and ethernet adapters remain enabled, that seems like a fine solution. So does it work?

You could also try unchecking the automatic metric in advanced TCP/IP settings for both adapters and manually assign the wireless adapter a lower value than the wired adapter.

WalkerA, that seemed to do the trick...I'm using Synergy (Synergy) and it's working great.

Ultraplanet, I will give that a shot and let you know.

Thanks all!

Remove the default gateway IP address. The one that "connects" you to the internet is default gateway, removing DNS servers only remove the ability your computer to resolve domain names to IP addresses...

Sure, keep us posted on what else, if anything, works. I'm curious Cheers, Walker Windows Outreach Team

Metric SET is the way to go!!!

zzz2496, I want to let you know that changing the metric is the better way. I have tested it and it works flawlessly. In my case, I made my wireless adapter metric 1, and the lan internet metric 10....works flawlessly. When wireless connected, automatically routes internet path through wireless. When yo disconnects seamlessly switches back to LAN wired.

HOT !! very hot!!!

@Fierywraith1

Good for you then

I personally removes the gateway instead changing metrics... But that's just me
