Problem with Windows 7 as VPN Server
Hi All,
I have a PC at home running Windows 7 beta. I haven't updated to RC because I am currently traveling abroad. The Win7 PC to the internet via a wired network card connected to a DLink router (which is connected to Virgin Media cable broadband).
Background: Last year while traveling, the same PC was running vista. I wanted to access UK-only content while traveling abroad, so I configured an incoming connection on Vista. When I wished to access the UK-only content, I would VPN from a Vista client to the Vista VPN server at home. All internet traffic would route via the Vista VPN server and I could access the UK-only content.
Current Problem: I am again traveling and I again wish to access UK-only content. I have again configured the same computer (now running Win7 beta) with an incoming connection using the default config. I can again establish a VPN connection from the same Vista client to the Win7 VPN server. However, this time I cannot access anything beyond the Win7 machine itself... No internet; no access to other home computers or the DLink router.
I have tried toggling the option on the Win7 VPN server to allow or disallow access to the local network (i.e. the home network). I have also tried the registry setting that enables IP forwarding. Neither option makes any difference. I cannot configure the Win7 machine to share its internet connection because the computer is not multiholmed (and even if I could, doing so would cause an IP address conflict with the DLink router).
I have tried adding static routes to the Vista VPN client, but all such attempts have failed. I will continue along this path however.
In the mean time, I thought I post the problem here in case any of you can help.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
