W7 Pre Installed media folders duplicated on own and locked out

I was in the process of copying files (unrelated, i.e. no media files whatsoever, just simple drag and drop of pdf and word files) from a CD to my hard drive and when I went back to My Documents Library, the My Pictures, Videos, and Music folders had been duplicated.

One set of each has what looks like a shortcut symbol and the other set has a golden colored padlock. I cannot get into either set - access denied.

I have no idea what happened and despite poking around both the properties and the share menu, I have no idea how to 1) unlock/stop getting "access denied" on all six of the folders and 2) how/which one to get rid of.

I would really, really appreciate any feedback on this problem, which strangely just seemed to occur. I do not want to lose the contents of these files -- although they are all completely backed up - I am just more perplexed and annoyed.

    Thanks, Avery2000

    Give permissions.

You may need to take ownership first

Problem solved despite error message protests

I used each folder's Properties - Security - Edit Permissions....allowing full control...I got numerous access denied messages and just ok'd through them, and when through, the lock symbol was gone despite the computer's own 'position'.

Then used the advanced security tab to edit the permissions...'everyone' had been denied from the particular folders. I changed that.

Now all is fine. The 2 sets of folders that were added were shortcuts to the best of my understanding. I have no idea how they both got created or why under the advanced tab, permissions had been changed to denied.

Not the most sophisticated resolution, but it worked. I was concerned about the take ownership method given a warning about cmd as administrator which I just used two days ago and the link said taking ownership steps would replace that feature.

Thanks for sending me in the right direction. Avery2000
