Hi All,
This is my first thread on what seems to be a pretty decent forums, hoping to get a decent option for routing, managing and shaping traffic on my local network..
Just quickly here's a brief of my current setup (pretty plain and simple):
Computer --> Ethernet (Random IP by DHCP) --> BT HomeHub --> Internet
Now I use a VPN connection for connecting to a server for using a few GUI front end apps to SQL databases and also setup citrix sessions via it; however in order to do this, I dial up the VPN connection with the in-built Windows 7 service (much like connecting to a wireless connection) and as the connection switches on, as specified, in the VPN settings "Use default gateway on remote network" is ticked in order to push all my traffic through the VPN; this however does not really suite my needs, as I do not preferably want to route all my traffic, as some queries and reports may take their time and I wish to use the internet down my default route (as via the VPN it's very slow).. I have found many 'solutions' that have failed, and thought of a few of my own i.e. unticking the "default gateway" option and binding a proxy server to it. I also know I could probably fairly easily setup a server in between the homehub and pc and route the traffic effectively on the server, but for obvious reasons this is not ideal..
So I would
ideally wish for a neat GUI for managing traffic, dragging pretty lines between 'active routes' and apps or someting

...
however, possibly a good tutorial, or a point in the right direction for setting up a 'local' proxy server bound to the VPN or another option... I am open to all options or solutions.
Thanks very much
Alex
