Wireless drops out when transferring large file over RDP

Hi All,

I have an issue when I copy a large file over RDP. The file size in this example is 176MB, I am copying from a Win7 machine to server 2003. When I start the copy everything goes fine from maybe up to a minute, the the RDP window freezes and looses its connection. I loose all connections (other RDP, internet, email) until I reset the wireless adapeter.

I've had this issue before wioth Vista but was able to resolve it by running netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled, however it has had no positive effect in this case.

I have an XP VM inside the Win7 machine, I can transfer large files from within the VM to the server 2003 machine with out any issues. So I'm pretty sure it's something going on in Win7 OS.

Can anyione help?

Tim

You might try running these other commands to see if anything changes. I know you are aware of the first two.
- Run a command prompt (cmd.exe) as an Administrator
- Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
Disable the autotunning feature in Vista completely, and fit and lock the RWIN receive window to default value 65536 bytes.

If you want to to re-enable it:
- Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

In some cases you may need to use this command in addition to the above,
- Type: netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

Update! This command makes your network connection EVEN FASTER
Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted

It might also help to go into the properties of your wireless adaptor and adjust or disable some of the settings in there.
