Seems like a bit of an odd request for me. There are tons of things that you "could" do with it...but I'm unsure of your needs, skill level or desire to tinker.

Things you could do (at a high level)
1). Install Windows Server 2008 and learn
2). Install a Linux server and learn
3). Install a virtualization hypervisor solution and learn about virtualization
4). Setup basic file and print sharing for your home
5). Setup a web or mail server for Internet use.

Yet personally? I would run VMware ESX on it.. But thats just me.

Could get Windows Home Server for it, though with only 400 gig of storage space it may not be the best storage and backup server. Could add a couple of 2 gig drives though. Backup all the machines on your network, central file repository etc.

It's nice of you have more than one machine in the house and want to acess all your files from any of them or remotely (from work say).

Of course, the amount of memory that he has will dictate whether that is wise to do or not. For example, if it only has 2GB of RAM...you won't be able to run many virtual machines.

    Agree with fseal
Try adding a couple of 2tb drives not 2gig (they won't store much) I know it was a Typo LOL
