Windows 7: "Invalid IP Address"

"Invalid IP Address"

I recently got a new HP Pavilion dv6t laptop 4 days ago, and I've been having difficulties connecting to the internet. I was able to connect four times ever since i got it, and the first two times were only for four minutes and the second two times was for a couple hours, then disconnected. The way my internet is set up is that i have a modem (Motorola SBV5220 Cable Modem), and a wireless router (Cisco-Linksys WRT110 Rangeplus) connected to my parents computer two rooms away. Then I have a Dell desktop in my room, that has a SMC EZ Connect Wireless adapter. Currently, my parents desktop and my desktop have complete access to the internet. Whileas my laptop says "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. How can I fix this?
