    laptop can't access wired devices

    Hi All,

My laptop (running Win7 Home Premium & wireless) can see my desktop unit & my NAS (both hard-wired), but when I try to access them, for the desktop I get the error message "Cannot access <name>, check spelling and try again". The spelling and capitalization is correct and the network troubleshooter is at a loss. However, my desktop can see & access the laptop. With the NAS, if I click on the device, it opens the configuration webpage. Another laptop in the house has no problems connecting to the desktop & NAS. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

you might need to deactivate your firewall for a while and try connecting, if it didn't help, keep it deactivated (disabled) and Check Advanced Settings.(it's prefered to be offline cuz having internet connection while no firewall enabled is not a good idea):

If you are using the same login details on your laptop as you do on the PC for the mapped drives on the NAS this can cause a problem. Delete your mapped drives to the NAS and map them again using the admin account for the NAS to see if you get the same error. Also playing around with the wireless settings on the laptop can cause the mappings to the NAS to drop out in some cases (I don't know the NAS your using).
