Printer Sharing Windows 7 RC 64 to Vista 32

To All those Getting the Access Denied Error when attempting the "Poodle-Faking" method, this is the Fix.

You must complete both steps on the machine that is sharing the Printer. Just to play it safe I did on both my machines.

1) Share Permissions
1. On explorer, go to C:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS
2. Right click, Properties
3. Sharing tab
4. Advanced Sharing
5. Check "Share this folder"
6. Permissions
7. Grant everyone Full Control

2) NTFS Permissions
1. On explorer, go to C:\windows\system32\spool\printers
2. Right click, Properties
3. Security tab
4. Edit
5. Add
6. Advanced
7. Find Now
8. Choose "NETWORK"
9. OK
10. Grant NETWORK Full Control

I found out that my Network Discovery settings on my Vista 32 wasn't even selected for either on or off but I selected Discovery on and the printer still won't work. I even rebooted my computer to see if the settings needed to be on with a fresh boot and the settings stayed but I still couldn't access the printer. I even uninstalled all of the Canon software from it and reinstalled it and still I get access denied.

I am so frustrated. I don't understand what the problem is.

I did notice, however, that even though the Network Discovery settings said "Custom" before I changed them to On, I was able to see my Windows 7 computer and it's printer from the network selector. Do you think it is maybe just a glich in Windows 7 RC or what else do you think it could be?

I'm not mad. I was looking for an emoticon that would show pulling out hair but they didn't have one and that was the funniest. ^-^v

I am running into the same problem you are having. Vista x86 Laptop, Win7 x64 workstation (with printer attached, previously running Vista x64 and printing fine).

My laptop discovers the Win7 on the network, does list the Printer folder but there are no printers in it (Network Discovery is obviously ON in the Win7 station). When I go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings, the File and Printer Sharing is turned OFF.

I turn it on (click radio button), Save Changes, go thorugh all the UAC prompts, etc. Try printing and still printing from the laptop to the network printer does not work.

So I go back to check Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings and surprisingly File and Printer Sharing is turned off (I had just trned it ON!).

So I turn it back ON. But no matter how many times I try to turn it ON, it does not stay ON. It resets to OFF! So my problem is how to turn it ON and get it to stay ON! Check to see if you have the same problem. Solution?

My configuration is same as yours, Desktop W7 64 with Canon 780 printer attached via USB. Two laptops are wireless, desktop is on lan to router. I have a common work group name on all three computers, each computer has unique computer names
I then went to the W7 desk top.
I went into Control Panel, network and sharing center, advanced sharing settings.
there I Turned ON all except 1) changed file sharing connections to 40-56 bit encryption (I read this somewhere so not sure this change is necessary) and I turned off password protection (this is most important, passwork is only for w7 to w7 networking).
From there I went to vista laptop and went to NETWORK and (if you can see you desktop - If not that is another problem). I went to "add a printer" from network. Once you find it, you should be ok. Good luck.

Had to register to let you know that this method WORKS. I looked all day today for a way to fix this problem. I have a Canon printer on a Windows 7 (64) machine, and I could not print to the networked printer from my Vista laptop. Canon does not provide an installable .pdf, only an unpackable .exe file (which won't install on the 64 bit machine). I tried the fake local port thing and got "access denied". Thank you, thank you, thank you. You're a life saver.

I have tried it all. I did everything on this page, I tried the "poodle-faking" and still no connection. I have tried the print-spooler restart, nothing. I have gone into share settings. I have gone into the window/system 32 settings and these two PCs still will not connect.I have rebooted and reloaded operating systems on each PC and I at my wits end. I cannot afford to by an operating system for my desktop. I also feel that this shouldn't necessary. Are their any other suggestions? It always comes back after I send a document to the printer that their is no connection. Yet I can access all other shared folders on my XP 32b PC from my Win7 x64 laptop. Please help.

Well, I have read everything and probably tried everything to get a printer physically connected to a Win 7 pc to print a job initiated on a wireless networked pc running VISTA.

It seems that there must be a step-by-step solution here? And what is the change that messed things up from my former XP - VISTA setup? It worked just fine with xp and vista, where the xp PC had the printers physically connected?

Please, if you have insight to this problem, please use small words and speak slowly for my benefit. If you can lay out the fix "by the numbers" that would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Microsoft still doesn't have this fixed over a year later. I just bought a win7 laptop and I'm trying to print to a network printer connected to a vista desktop. I can share files fine fine but when it comes to printing no luck. On the Win7 laptop I see the network printer but the laptop won't communicate with it.

1)Win7X32 Desktop,

I notice that on 1) Printer Properties>Sharing>Additional Drives, the [ ] x64 box was unchecked & under Installed, it had "No." However, I wasn't able to find or install a x64 driver.
