Ip address not detecting

Hi,

I have a small problem, i have an internet connection at home which assigns an IP address automatically. I use a LAN CABLE

When i moved to Windows 7, the connection shows 'limited or no connectivity' and the IP address starts with 192.168..... while it should be something else.

any solution, i am seriously thinking of moving back to my WINDOWS XP

A 192.168.x.x is a DHCP address normally...169.x.x.x is when you have a problem. If you have a router check the DHCP setting for it...otherwise a little more info would be good.

In windows Xp when i used to connect the lan cable it used to give me an automatic IP starting with 41.212.XX.XX, while in windows 7 it gives me 192.168.xx

I have tried enabling and disabling the connection, i have also tried forcing the IP and other settings on the adapter but it does not work

I have also gone through CMD> IPCONFIG/ RELEASE AND RENEW

I hope this information is enough

Thanks

Hi vivekrajdev. 192.168.xx.xx is normal if you are behind a router. It seems that the problem is between the router and the Internet.

Are all the lights on your router green? specifically the "sync" light and the "internet" light (yours might look different)

Do you have any other machines connected to the router? Can they get on the Internet?

Also can you please open command prompt and type Ipconfig /all and post back the results. Thanks

with those ip addresses, it looks like the router is a modem or not set up to use nat, maybe.
41.212 is an external address.
I would run the Setup new network connection once you know how your connecting to the web.
