I had a look at your proxy. Two questions.
1. Is it safe
2. Is there a noticable performance impact.

I can tell you that there is a performance impact when using a proxy. Hidemyass seems to be safe but using proxy's in general is a pain.

So do proxies have more performance impact compared to VPNs?
