Wireless internet works, wired switch doesn't
This problem appears to be a variation on the hardy perennial "foo" doesn't have a valid IP configuration" problem.
My Win7 machine originally had a DSL connection through a router using an Ethernet cable, and it worked great. I used the same router for wireless and to connect with a home network to my other computers running XP Pro.
Then I changed to FIOS, and a new wireless router that had to be located in a non-wire-reachable location. No problem, a USB wireless dongle and the win7 box was happy again and could see the internet via wireless.
However. I could not connect the rest of my network, also in the non-wire reachable location. I want to use the main box, the win7 one, as the internet connection and connect the printers and other computers to it via cable and a switch. The LAN is showing as the dreaded Unknown Public connection which cannot be reset, the diagnosis is "doesn't have a valid IP configuration", and I've tried setting up ICS, making sure the security settings for files is NOT 128 bit, the IPV6 and 4 are set to automatically gather IP settings on all machines, and I'm running out of ideas. I don't let Microsoft automatically update anything, so I don't think it is a driver issue. The win7 ethernet card worked great when it was the only connection. I *think* I saw a connection on one xp pro box before changing the IPV settings on it, but I can't be sure. I got a brand new D-link ethernet switch to try and make this work, both connector lights are green but no data is being exchanged.
Here's the latest ipconfig -all
