Microsoft Feels "Urgency" for Tablets Quote: REDMOND, Wash. (CNNMoney.com) -- Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said Thursday that the software giant is urgently working with its partners to unveil a host of tablet computers running Windows 7, to compete with Apple's fast-selling iPad.
At a meeting with financial analysts on Thursday, Ballmer outlined the company's strategy to catch up to Apple and Google in the consumer space. He said Apple is doing an "interesting" job with the iPad and has "sold certainly more than I'd like them to sell." As a result, Ballmer said his company's "job one urgency" is bringing Windows-based tablet computers to the market. Article

This is a flawed strategy on their part, I think. The iFad doesn't run on Snow Leopard, it runs on the iPhone OS....so why the insistence that a MS tablet run on Windows 7?
The iFad is an over-sized iPod Touch with a couple other tweaks(over-simplifying, I know)....so why doesn't MS take the same approach with the Zune HD as a base to work from?
Their approach reminds me why common sense is an oxymoron. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Areas MS still tops:
OS (Windows)
Office productivity (Office)
Development tools (visual studio, .NET)
Areas Apple has:
Phones

The full blown version costs over $1000 in Europe. At the end, MS will not play catch-up but come out with something that people can make use of - I hope at least. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |
