I've sucessfuly tried that. I love the art talent in those theme that they make, but it's hard to keep in mind that you have to change your system file in order to make it work. It's always better if it goes with your OS. Who know in a nice day, with the changed system file and a new update, you won't be able to start up your machine {grin}

It's not like SP3 is hard to find. Hundreds of websites have the download for it. I can't guarantee all of those sites should be trusted, but their are plenty that can. If you want the patch, just upgrade to SP3. It might take awhile to install, but it not like its going to hurt you in any way.

You are always going to get someone who installed "it" once , got a blue screen, and said never again and you can't make me. "it" being, XP SP3, Vista SP2, etc.
My XP install media already includes SP3. I've got the full installer on thumb drive as well. Along with the latest version of IE, media player, etc.

For those who insist on running XP with SP2, they might be able to use a 3rd party tool that blocks the Windows Shortcut Exploit. For example, Sophos (an established anti-malware company) offers an alternative to the Microsoft patch.

You have to get it through Windows Update. If you took the time to read you would know that the update just came out Monday, while SP3 is at least two years old. You have to have SP3 in order to still get Windows Updates. As support for SP2 ended before the Update became available, you can't get it with SP2.
