Well, all I have to say is...RIP Java and RIP Oracle. After all the years that Sun spent building goodwill, Oracle has destroyed that in one fell swoop.Oracle has just filed a lawsuit againt Google for patent and copyright infringement related to Android's use of Java.
"In developing Android, Google knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property. This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies for their infringement," said Oracle spokesperson Karen Tillman.
Someone will step up and build something better for Google/Android and, although that will be a rough transition, it will develop into something better for the PC/web as well.
.NET...here's your time to shine...
Yeah, my bad, Forgot the link. I think this guy says it best, lol
@phil_nash Welcome to the new decade: Java is a restricted platform, Google is evil, Apple is a monopoly and Microsoft are the underdogs
its about time google gets owned, i hate them
They aren't that bad, compared to others. Android is awesome, much better than iOS4. Their business practices have gotten a bit shady lately though, especially regarding net neutrality.
Oracle just wants some kickbacks on the money that Google and Android handset makers are making on their phones. If Oracle really has a case, Google et al will prob just settle and pay royalties.
After that, Java may die.
You don't see MS doing this with .NET.
Reminds me of SCO suing others over their believed ownership of Unix until Novell finally beat them in court and SCO was eventually forced to shut up and get out of the business of suing people as they couldn't come up with anything.
