With McAfee deal, Intel to bake in security
-
I'm curious: Why do you feel they are superior to Intel?
-
-
I don't think they're better, just less expensive.. It would have cost at least another $400 to build an intel based box that would be any faster, but intel does make a better CPU
-
When that happens I will go with AMD.
Then you may get another AV to go with that.
This is only speculation, but if Intel & McAfee are hopping in bed together, then what's to stop AMD from teaming up with Norton or another AV.
They may not have a choice but to do so to stay competitive. I'll bet AMD & several AV companies are watching this real close.
On the plus side, this may indeed lead to a better, improved AV. I won't say 100% secure, because we all know there is no such beast.
I agree with your premise; but with AMD it won't be McAfee.
When that happens I will go with AMD.
lol.. one step ahead of you on that.. built a 6 core AMD system two weeks ago and I love it...
for god's sake I hope they improve McAfee's products first or Intel is going to go right down the tubes
+1 I could not agree more.
Now what happens when MS bundles MSE with Win 8?
-
Yeah.. the phenom is the high end processor. Pricewise, AMD phenom X2s and X4s outperform anything made by intel for the same money
Are you sure about that statement? As many benchmarks seem to indicate that a Core i5-750 often outperforms or closely matches a 1090T, and the Corei5-750 is $100 CHEAPER than a 1090T.
Here is an example;

Ok then.. I will retract that statement. Having never actually tested a system with an i5 750 in it, I couldn't say whether it actually outperforms the 1090t in real world apps, as benchmark tests don't always reflect reality, especially when comparing AMD to intel, but in my research for my last build I did consider an i7 920/x58 mobo/ddr3/ dual 480Gtx SLI build and decided to spend the money I saved on a pair of really good HDDs instead

What I do with any new computer that comes my way I rip off the free trial McAfee and put my own security on it. So, if they intend to embed with McAfee then I will have to go with AMD. Saying that, the last computer I bought was an AMD...Works well!

That's cool and I'm not trying to bad mouth an AMD setup (I've used them before myself), but your statement about AMD always outperforming Intel at the same price point rubs me the wrong way. It's a common misbelief and shared by many, but not universally true.
Except for the very top of the line, we haven't really had high priced Intel CPU's since the Pentium D, Core 2 Duo timeframe. Price per performance with Intel chips has been excellent.

Really, if intel goes with the McAfail thing, they should change their company name to Dunce

It probably won't run on an Intel chip.

I can just see it now... every intel based PC made after this will be infected within 30 seconds of connecting to the internet for the first time, if you can even get it to boot without McAfreeze flagging some critical driver as a virus while ignoring actual viruses..
