Google Instant -- Type your Alphabet

    Hi all
This Google instant I DON'T like -- for example it is SUPPOSED to throw up a list of what it thinks you might like.

So on D it gave me DEBENHAMS a large UK store I can't EVER remember going anywhere near in my life and in any case I UTTERLY LOATHE AND DETEST RETAIL shopping of any kind --buying cars are an exception but that's not really "shopping" in the sense of traipsing around retail stores in a mall or High St.

I suspect its not really "Instant" they are trying to flog but another "sneaky set" of the 21st century version of "Subliminal Advertising".

I ran an A -Z just for fun and it just seemed to go for large corporate brands - very few of which have I ever dealt with or even visited their web sites.

If you've got an interesting "suggestion" from google Instant just post it --it would be interesting to see what others get.

    Cheers

If you don't like it you can turn it off. The option is to the right of the search bar.

If I type "D", then I get DFS company as the top result, even though I've never been there. Though it's probably doing it on purpose as I hate DFS adverts on TV with their weekly double savings sale crap.

    Hi there
Is DFS that company for as long as I can ever remember has been having "Sales Must End on Sun dd/mm/yy" and then a few days later ANOTHER "Must End sale appears".

I don't know who has EVER paid list price for one of these objects.

    Cheers

Yea that's the company. I don't think I've ever seen them NOT have a sale.

It might be tied into location, in part. Both of you are showing an European location according to the info below your sig and both of your results with "D" have provided European results.
I'm in Florida, US, close to Orlando and "D" gives me:

Perhaps the more Google Instant is used the more it learns. I'm sure there must be some type of local algorithm that coordinates with your previous search history over time.

A guess on my part, to be certain, but interesting nonetheless.

Then again, Jimbo, your thoughts regarding the corporatist/promotional/advertising aspect has more legs than my idea.

Here's where the option to turn it off is for me.
