If you backed up you favorites prior to installing the beta and then copied them back into the users\Favorites folder afterwards the icons will be seen as the default MS type. When at the same page again simply delete the first and add it in again.

Some won't display simply due to IE being in beta form. I found that to be the case here when saving certain pages and not seeing the icon refresh itself. And that was with the installation seeing all favorites imported from IE 8.

Sometimes you still have to readd a page into your favorites even with everything having been imported to refresh it. The icon will look like an old MS dos type often seen with dead shortcuts until you delete that while at the page and simply add in the page again.

If you just installed the beta and added everything fresh you would see the icons for eaach site. The MS substitute icons simply let you know it's time to readd the page.

    Windows may not be genuine...

I installed the IE9 Beta, and after I rebooted the computer, I got a window that said that Windows may not be genuine. What's up with that???

I hate IE anyway, but I wanted to see what the hype was all about, so I installed it. Maybe I shouldn't have done it as now my LEGAL Paid for Windows 7 may be screwed up.

You more then likely saw a bad install o start with for some reason. That may have been a result of any av program or firewall you have on being enabled during the install itself.

Fortunately DarkNovaGamer wrote up a guide for seeing the beta version uninstalled. Internet Explorer 9 - Uninstall

and note the other information posted by Airbot as well.
Uninstallation of IE9 and flash square

Why you ran into that particular error however has mainly to due with the WGA and the Windows 3.1 or 4.0 installer. You likely need to go for that and try again later once you have the present install raken care of to see a amooth install if there are any other problems being seen.

I called Microsoft Genuine Advantage and he told me to open IE9 beta and go to their site and download and run a file (I forgot what) reboot and I no longer get that window pop up. He also checked my key and it was valid (I knew hat already).

removed it again. I am not happy with the failure of the download manager to open anything when I click run instead of save on a download and I cannot get a window of my downloads with I click download manager under the gear icon.

Guess I'll wait for the full version.

Almost the same thing for me. Clicking view downloads from the gear icon crashes IE 9 x32 and nothing happens in IE 9 x64. I had the same problem before and it was all downhill from there. I've uninstalled it again, it's just not worth the hassle. I was getting a lot of not responding too.

I haven't even run the 32bit beta as of yet being a bir more interested in how things were shaping up for the 64bit IE 9 in general running the 64bit Ultimate here. I think you will be seeing all that cleaned up in final release while you still have to remember this is all "beta"!

It's not the complete browser you saw in IE 8 all this time but still the early unfinished release mainly for evaluation, feedback, and simply a quick look. It was far enough for people to have that quick look unless participating in a feedback where you have a look and go back to IE 8 until ready if you are having problems.

Here I saw the 64bit version go on the second drive set up for testing with IE 8 still in use on the host drive where most of any downloads are still seen there. For the next person with only drive or one browser and not prepared for beta to begin with I have to caution this is what this is a beta. And betas have beta bugs!
