Best Buy memo explains that Vista doesn't work, details Windows 7 upgrade plans

Better still, the individual OSes also qualify for the update, and starting on June 26th, Best Buy will begin "pre-selling" the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade ($49.99) and the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade ($99.99).

Wait, if you can install the full version with an upgrade disc whats the point of buying the full version? =|

Though $49.99 would be perfect as I will hardly have any cash (if I have any) after building my first Desktop.

We can 2x the price for the boxed version... Home Premium upgrade has a nice price though I don't like upgrades... prefer clean install discs (YES I KNOW THAT I CAN MAKE A CLEAN INSTALL WITH UPDATE DISC before anyone points it out).

I'll probably get 7 SP1 Home Premium since XPM sux.

I find upgrading from whatever version of windows causes problems, even within the Win 7 builds themselves or is this something they will be able to tweak and correct before the release?

    HAHA good one.

On topic, I only trusted upgrades when I was a kid. I've learned a lot since then and only do clean installs of Windows.

As far as upgrades go, I used to avoid them like the plague because they really did cause friends a lot of grief. But I have gone through almost all of the builds of Win 7, started with 32 bit. When I switched to 64 bit I, of course, did a clean install, but it has been upgrades since then. I had one 32 bit upgrade fail on me, probably because of an early version of AVG still being installed, but Win 7 rolled back perfectly. I really think MS has done a great job with the upgrade process. Clean installs will always be better, but with my insane desire to try every new build I just don't have the time.

Upgrade discs are bad news. Don't you have to have a previous OS that is supported to even install Windows 7? What if you only have XP laying around, i heard you can't upgrade from that.

how do you make clean install with update disc?

also, will an update be possible from xp?

finally, can you update more than one computer with the update disc?

You have to have a vista disk, though it is possible to do a clean install from an upgrade disk.
