Best Buy leaked memo spills Windows 7 upgrade details

A leaked memo has revealed that Best Buy will begin pre-selling Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system on 26 June in the US.

The retailer confirmed late last week the date people can start buying Vista-based computers and subsequently qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7, when it lands in October.

Engadget has published a copy of the memo here. It outlines prices for upgrade versions of Windows 7 Home Premium ($49) and Windows 7 Professional ($99), both of which will be available via the Best Buy website.

Whatever the price, we will pay the most. OZ always does (NZ too).

Seems cause we are at the bottom of the world we get thought of last, mostly.

That's why 7 is going to be launched first, in your neck of the woods,

Don't believe it -- I went into a PC World store last week in the UK and noticed that for a non upgrade version of Office Enterprise 2007 they were asking a total Wallet busting amount of GBP 537 -- Now I know with a somewhat problematical government more worried about paying for their moats round their tax payer funded houses etc than actually getting down to sorting out the economy the GBP lost some ground against other currencies -- but you are talking here of around 900 USD for this product. I don't think sterling has gone down THAT much -- and I'm from a country where the whole banking system has essentially gone bust anyway. (Iceland).

Baring in mind you can get a MSDN technet subscription for VERY MUCH LESS than this it just shows how the UK customers are willing (probably because they are so used to it) to probably pay more than any other nation on Earth.

So G'day mates down in 'OZ - don't feel you are hard done by -- just try paying UK prices.

(Slightly off topic -- but in the same vein -- If I need to travel between London and Brussels via the Eurostar train service - excellent BTW -- I get charged DOUBLE the amount if I book a return from London to Brussels than if I do it the other way round from Brussels to London.)

When I show my tickets to UK colleagues they are utterly amazed.

So the old adage of "rip off Britain" is alive and kicking -- don't feel too hard done by in good old 'OZ.

(I don't know too much about Cricket but looking forward to the Ashes series -- I have to watch SOMETHING before the footie season starts again).

    Cheers

oh come now, jimbo. you have to remember that brits earn pounds. it might seem rough as an outsider, but i spent a few years living there (as a student), working and earning GBP. my part-time student salary was, if translated to USD, the highest salary i've ever earned.

and the GBP:USD ratio has been approximately 2:1 for many years...

We may earn pounds, But if something in the US costs $400, we pay £400,
Which by your exchange rate is $800.
We get ripped all the time.
