Senate Approves Internet Censorship Bill

Quote:
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the COICA Internet censorship bill this morning, despite bipartisan opposition, and countless experts pointing out how it would be ineffective, unconstitutional, bad for innovation and the tech economy, and would break the Internet.

To recap, COICA gives the government dramatic new copyright enforcement powers, in particular the ability to make entire websites disappear from the Internet if infringement, or even links to infringement, are deemed to be “central” to the purpose of the site. Rather than just targeting files that actually infringe copyright law, COICA's "nuclear-option" design has the government blacklisting entire sites out of the domain name system — a reckless scheme that will undermine global Internet infrastructure and censor legitimate online speech.

Makes me feel like why are we even given this technology to us if your just going to stop us from using it the way we intended

Some self rightous pr*** has felt he could change the world by doing this I think were in the age of being Big brothered on the net as well which is tottal bsing our first admendment rights along with most of the constitution it was built on

I bet this won't last long though these companies will end up sueing the government over freedom laws that were made for us in the first place basicly obstructing freedoms that we are supposed to have

Honestly this really ticks me off

The problem with this type of legislature is that they will be administered by some Bureaucrat that wouldn't know what the Internet was even if someone shoved it up his/her backside.

If presented with it, they could believe that the attached picture is the internet.

Sure they do. Spend more of our money, infringe on our constitutional rights and approve supreme court judges that will write their own laws. (and for you English experts out there I did not capitalize supreme court on purpose).
