Windows 7: Download IE8 and feed the hungry

Vista Ult 64 bit Seven Ult RTM x64

Just did a clean install of Vistax64SP2 and tried to install their download and it said it was not compatible. It is the x86 installer. Guess I'll have to get it from MS also.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Do we actually have to install this or just download it to our computers and then delete it afterwards?

Too late for me! I already downloaded it for XP and the latest installations of Vista one on the Virtual PC. With XP now gone and the former Vista drive in use with the 32bit RC?

Speaking of similar threads anyone? The Windows Experience blog with link is seen on the other thread at

I personally do not believe that the child who gets a meal where they would have gone hungry, because of this initiative, will really care that someone had to download a piece of free software to make it possible.

Indeed the very fact that Microsoft has become involved with this project has widened knowledge of the plight of some people in the worlds most affluent nation. I for one was unaware of this situation before this

I do not use IE as I prefer the alternatives, but I still clicked on the download button as I felt it would help people who needed help, whatever the motive of Microsoft.

Microsoft could have "spent" the $1 million on including some freebee with the download that would be of use to me, but I applaud them for choosing this publicity method.

Whether they are cynical or not the benefit to those who need it is the only really important thing to me

Only my opinion mind

But as you said at the end of the day so long as someone gets food its a good thing.

Bill Gates's New $9 Million Country Cabin - Forums
I don't begrudge Bill Gates this at all -- His Foundation actually gives HUGE amounts to charity - and whether you like MS or not Windows essentially has revolutionized computing -- without a decent GUI computers would still be regarded by most people as something a little bit better than Sorcery or Witchcraft. Even the 'X' server in Linux probably wouldn't exist as we know it today.

My only problem as I sepcified in my previous post is that Aid shouldn't be channeled directly to corrupt governments - but directly to the recipients.

If MS can do this the fine and good - but if they are just acting as a "mega collection agency" which will then hand over barrell loads of cash over to the usual "Government" agencies for distribution then I'm out.

What many don't seem to realize is that BG no longer the MS CEO has publicly stated that his will was set up to distribute everything to charity once he was gone. He said he couldn't take it with him anyways so he might as well give it all away!
