Microsoft Plans New Windows Version for Tablets

Microsoft Plans New Windows Version for Tablets

    Posted: 23 Dec 2010

Tech enthusiasts who have been flummoxed by Microsoft's slower-than-molasses reactions to new market trends such as motion gaming (Wii, 2006) smartphones (iPhone, 2007), and tablet computing (iPad, 2010) got a bit of good news this week: According to a Bloomberg report, the software giant is finally porting its Windows operating system to non-PC, thin and light hardware systems, opening up core product line to a new generation of devices.

Halleluiah! Did Microsoft just get its mojo back?

I sure hope they do a good job of it. I just bought my wife a Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android 2.2 and I'm really impressed with it.

For some reason Microsoft has been having to play catchup lately. First the cellphone now the Pad or Tablet (whichever you prefer calling it).

Sure hope someone weak up over there in Redmond.

I don't see why they need to make a whole new OS for it. I'm sure Windows Phone 7 could just be tweaked a bit.

Microsoft is not Apple (iPhone = iPad = iPod Touch => iOS)

Windows Phone & Windows Mobile = Windows CE on steroids.

Since MS has been using CE on many, many devices before, I guess they just decided that their current system won't work well with tablets since they're mostly touch. A new OS makes sense... sort of.

Btw, a modified Windows Phone 7 on tablets would suck. It's mostly locked down, it doesn't feel like the classic anymore wherein you can meddle with anything because of the fact you can access almost anything.
