I hear a volume of complaints on prices no one looks back at Vista's original pricing having seen a drop. If the final pricing is where Vista is now it will be even more of a bargain not only pricewise for what was first seen for Vista but the better version.

Adding to that you also have to consider the edition that will best suit your own specific needs since the SKUs are known. http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.a...pgno=5#pricing

I have never seen the words 'bargain' and 'vista' in the same sentence before
with the loaf of dog s*#t, that vista is, MS should just 'area51' it, and denounce it's existence. sorry, i just really hate vista.

hopefully upgrading with the rtm wont have all those nasty bugs, cause $300+ is a little out f my price range.

Well then you be going with the Home Premium edition of 7 most like if not the Professional edition. As far as bargains and Vista in the same sentence? I knew someone that hated Vista would say something like that!

The bargain is seen when you get 7 for the same or less that what was paid out for Vista 2yrs. ago! Simply look at what you would be getting for the same price with 7!

I hate to say it but at those prices I will run the RC till it expires and revert back to XP. Microsoft need to get into the real world, its why retail sales are so poor and they heavily reliant on oem sales.

Something like this might do it.

    Starter edition - 19.99usd
    Home premium - 49.99usd
    Professional - 99.99usd
    Ultimate - 119.99usd

Then sell at proper price in uk not ripping them of in comparison to .us customers.

I'm afraid that isn't real world pricing either. 98SE was sold retail for $180- in it's day. An upgrade ran $99.95. And it wouldn't be starter since that isn't even a desktop edition for Vista. You start off with Basic, Home Premium, Professional for 7, and then Ultimate.

    The word is:

Windows 7 Starter Edition: USD $199.95
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition: USD $259.95
Windows 7 Professional Edition: USD $299.95
Windows 7 Ultimate Edition: USD $319.95

Windows 7 Pricing Details (Price for Various Editions) Leaked » My Digital Life is one source for what would suggest 7 will see the same prices now seen for Vista following a price drop after that version's first year.

Where's Basic or will there be a Basic edition as seen with Vista? But the price list here seems to be confirmed by private sources as well. Nothing seen at MS however.

Nothing seen there is written in stone by any means until MS actually makes a general announcement on what they finally decided on for a price list. I wouldn't be that surprized like I've mentioned before about 7's initial price range very close to that for the retail not separate oem disks sold at online vendors.

When buying an oem from newegg or another what do you get? The one disk for the particular edition selected whether 32bit or 64bit. The retail package is obviously going to expected to be nearly if not exactly twice the price having both 32 and 64bit disks together using one product key.

What that amounts to is retail seeing two versions of the same edition in one box. With things being slow due to the economy retail chains like the special just seen by BestBuy will likely offer their own discounts simply to draw in the business considering when 7 will be generally available.

I really doubt those are fake. These are the same prices as vista, but then again vista was more expensive at first.
