I would'nt be at all surprised if there might be a new form of memory is on its way.

Maybe DDR4 or even possibly a completely new type.

Who knows, all i know is... 12GB, by end the of the year, may possibly be in my system.

At present JEDEC expects to finalize the DDR4 specification in 2011 and start commercial production in 2012. Actual mass transition to the next-generation memory is projected to occur towards 2015.

Here is the article.

Next-Generation DDR4 Memory to Reach 4.266GHz - Report - X-bit labs

Article also mentioned the new interface topology would be point-to-point which means only one memory module per channel. CPU's and motherboards will have to be redesigned but that is progress.

Well bowl me over and call me Sally!!!!

Nice read Phone man. Although its still 4 years away, that gives DDR3 the chance to plummet in price. Hmm, wonder what wonders we'll see then.
